Puerto Galera 2006
I can still clearly remember our first get-away to Puerto Galera in 2006. This was a summer outing led by Ms. Chet Evaristo to unwind and relax for a moment from the workloads of the academe. Among the colleagues present on this special outing were David Sunico, Anderson Manilay, Myra Dimayuga, Myra Alina, Cecile Torres, Michael Jimenez, Bing Romero, Neoh Royo, Joseph Luna, Rolando Calara, Tristan Eseo, Annaliza Paglicawan, Allan Quilloy, Rosenda Alzona and Joel Flores who joined this summer outing.
Galera was a very relaxing place to see and experience. The boat ride from Batangas pier to White Beach was somewhat thrilling too. The sand was not as white as Boracay, but the White Beach was so magnificent. You can see clearly what was there at the bottom of the sea while swimming on its shores.
I did like too, the idea of Island Hopping… rock and mountain formations around galera, lots of small islands we passed by, and the most important part was the experience on their truly remarkable underwater coral formations. I truly appreciate nature and its wonder. This experience cannot be forgotten, as well as the people I was able to share the feelings of relaxation.
Pahiyas sa Lucban Quezon
Every 15th of May, the town of Lucban in Quezon province celebrates the Pahiyas Festival. In this festival, each home is decorated with fruits, vegetables and other crops harvested by the family. Decorating one’s house with all these colorful fruits, vegetables and colorful kiping or rice paper is a manifestation of abundance in this town. It is a tradition to give thanks to the town’s patron saint, San Isidro Labrador.
Kiping is very famous in this town, almost all homes are decorated with kiping or rice paper. These rice papers are prepared in different colors and sizes to suit the owner’s personal choice of decorating his house. After the celebration, these kipings freely given to the people visiting this place.

Thousands of people from all places visit this town to enjoy each house uniquely designed with their own harvested crops. Aside from the famous kiping, the town is also known for its unique noodle dish which is pancit hab-hab. Pancit hab-hab is placed in a banana leaf and is eaten without a
spoon or fork, just munch on it using your mouth and spice it up with the famous Lucban vinegar. Another famous food here is the Longganisa Lucban. A small, herbed ground pork wrapped in intestine skin. It is much aromatic and flavorful compare to other longganisa products of other towns.
If you are a first-timer on this town, don’t forget to buy some famous pasalubongs for your family such as Budin, Rodila’s Yema Cake, Special Siopao at the heart of the town, Pancit Hab-hab, Longganisa, and Broas.
A Tiny Me
When you are a busy person, you don’t mind the world around you. You don’t even notice that you have a new neighbor, or you have a new mail on your mail box or your refrigerator runs out of milk and cereal supplies. Some of your friends recognize the changes in your self, but you, are not aware of it. That is because, you’re a busy person. Busy of managing your business, busy trying to catch up new investor or just simply busy surfing the net. But when you pay attention to the environment around you, you will notice small things that might not be important. Just like me, because of my busy schedules at work and at home, I hardly notice this tiny plant. I just don’t know what came into my mind that I dug it out and put it in my palm, got my Sony Cybershot and took a picture of it. All I knew that time is that, this tiny plant might no longer be seen in my backyard because my dogs might play with it.
It is just a tiny plant I know, however, it reflects my personality and the world where I belong. Unnoticeable and simply working out on my way to make noticeable to others. Just how I compare myself with the tiny plant.
